Harmonica Almanac – May 11
Composer Irving Berlin was born on this day in 1888. While he is best known as one of America’s greatest songwriters, he also played piano and harmonica.
Harmonicats lead harmonica player Jerry Murad grew up on Chicago’s west side where he was boyhood pals with Bob Hadamik and Al Fiore. He spent a short time playing in the Harmonica Rascals before returning to Chicago and eventually forming the Harmonicats. Murad died on this day in 1996.
That’s it for today. Have fun and practice!
