Harmonica Almanac – September 7

Country singer-songwriter, guitar and harmonica player Frank Dudgeon was born on this day in 1901. Dudgeon start playing on the radio in the 1920’s and worked steadily until he left music in 1949.
Classical composer Graham Whettam wrote “Concerto Scherzoso for harmonica and Orchestra” in 1951 for Larry Adler, “Fantasy for Harmonica and Orchestra” in 1953 for Tommy Reilly and “Second Concerto for Harmonica and Orchestra” in 1961 for Tommy Reilly. Whettam was born on this day in 1927.

Rock singer-songwriter, guitar and sometimes harmonica player Chrissie Hynde was born on this day in 1951. Hynde sometimes plays the harmonica to accent her songs with her band, The Pretenders.
